Starting Counselling

First Steps

If you want to find out more about counselling or coaching, please fill in this form and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

We can then arrange to meet for an assessment; a first session that will allow us to discuss your particular needs and the format that would suit you most. We will explore possible reasons for what is happening in your life, so at the end of the hour, you will be able to make an informed decision, whether to continue and in what format.

Initial Appointment

If you decide to give counselling or coaching a go, you can then make your first appointment.
Coaching tends to focus on a particular area of your life that you need to improve. It is outcome driven and usually short term. We might meet every two weeks or even once a month, but you will be given assignments between the sessions. At the beginning of our work together we will draw up a detailed coaching contract, which will allow us to stay focused and keep your goal in mind.

But what if you can’t formulate an exact problem, but just feel “stuck in a rut”, “low” or generally unhappy?

In this case, counselling can help you. We would meet every week and spend time exploring the roots of your problem, whatever that might be. Counselling could help you discover what you really want from life, and how you may actually be unconsciously stopping yourself from getting those things you want.

Contrary to popular opinion, counselling does not have to last for months and years. Short-term counselling(up to 6 sessions) can help you, if your otherwise satisfactory life has been upset by a sudden change or an unexpected event, and you can’t get over it by yourself.

Your Personal Plan

You can decide to meet face to face or, as some of my clients do, choose telephone or Skype sessions, if you are living abroad or travelling for work.

We will talk it through at our first session and agree a plan of action that is most appropriate for your needs.
